Lean Techniques
Any company that’s been in business for a few years or more has established ways of operating. These standard operation procedures (SOP’s) have a logical reason for being done a certain way. Usually these SOP’s are developed by people in a particular area and optimized for that area alone. The problem is this isolated approach usually results in inefficiencies for other areas of the business.
Lean Techniques help address this situation by mapping an overall business process; whether its sales, marketing, operations, accounting, or whatever. Lean Techniques map your business value stream from the customer’s perspective, and determine areas that do not add value to the business (unnecessary steps, inefficiency, etc).
This should not be confused with high level number crunching where consultants recommend layoffs, or cutting less profitable areas of a business. Lean is an intelligent way to improve a business by making step-by-step improvements resulting in major efficiency gains. Learn more
